| hello Rich, to all. Rich last year you told me to not to use Tini Tim again for breeding after spooks, cause he laid off of food and only wanted to breed, well now that he has been eating up a storm, and is just now back up to weight, he has sprung the coop again to go after the one year old females, he has done this twice in the past month, spooks gotten out and tried to get his cage, so this is two snakes that have breed and they are going ape sh**,, to get with other snakes. now I thought that breeding started in the fall, to early winter? or are my snakes just horn dogs, they are not just getting out and hiding they are getting out with a mission, do they meet up in e the summer and stay together and then mate in the winter? I am not sure of what there behavior is trying to tell me, now spooks was wild caught. Didn't know better back then peeps. I'm confused, any input would be grateful thanks |

| breeding can really happen any time of th e year. Its just easiest for the peeps to cool in th ewinter if they choose to cool. Some snakes may be ready in July and wanting to breed then, others may not be til january... However, what is concerning me Kel is the fact that your snakes are getting out of their cage, to what appears to be on a fairly regular basis? You really need to fix this problem so it doesnt happen again- you are lucky you didnt loose one behind a wall, or have the snake hiding somewhere and then get stepped on and killed...or escape outside... The easiest way to ensure the safety of tiny tim ( any your other snakes) is to make sure they cannot escape again and get into each others cages. As for why not to use the same male next year, I have no clue. I never heard of that before, so I am interested in the answer for that as well |

| Umm if their escaping on a routine its time to rethink your housing. They dont escape in looks for the other snake in the room. You have a fault in your setup that needs dealing with.
If hes eating fine and gains enough weight for upcoming season then he will be fine to breed again. But ALWAYS watch weight so you dont push it too far. Males are horn dogs and will breed over feeding.
Also id like you not address each thread at me. Theres MANY knowledgeable breeders on here that can answer your questions as well. |

| I agree with you guys. Lil, you need to secure those tanks so they are not getting out. It is not normal for a snake to get out all the time. NONE of my snakes have ever "sprung the coop" unless I let them out. If you secure their enclosures so they do not get out then you do not have to worry about them breeding too soon cause they won't be able to get to each other. |

| ok. thank you for the advice, yes I have a culprit of my snakes getting out. yes spooks loves to blow her cage, she is my problem. thats a fact. I have a MAJOR problem there. now what I saw the other day, I have my reasons how and why my snakes are getting out. My elderly mother lives with me living out her remaining of her golden years. what I saw made me hit the wall and my jaw to hit the floor, I caught my mother sliding the front of one of my snakes open , now I didnt say anything to her about this. we'll just say she cant help it. but I sure now can prevent it locks will be going on the cages, I haven't used locks since I have no kids around me.but now I can prevent this again. as for spooks. she is Houdini and my nightmare . As for the room, and Rich, I'm sorry if I offended anyone of our members out there for directing my question at Rich , I meant to offend no one on this site, this site has some very very good herpers, and their knowledge is vast and needed, I hope my apology will be excepted. as for the lil turd Tini Tim, Rich I obviously misunderstood your advice last year. cause it has taken me all this spring and summer to get the weight on him that he lost during the fall and winter while he mated. thank you

| Weight regain after mating is a slow process. You dont want them to over eat and gain overnight. Its not good for their organs. You want slow steady growth, which it sounds as if you have had with him. I had 2 baby corns get out of tubs they were in. I changed them to ten gallon set ups with pin locking tops and WALA!! No more escapes! Having an elder with dimentia can be challanging. Especially when their brain says "Free the encaged critters!!" possibly because she empathises with them being cooped up...or who knows why...but in any event...Id get mom proof locks on those cages, or set up a reptile room with a lock on the door that she can only go in when you let her in. Whatever it takes to keep em safe. Good luck! |

| update: locks on all cages, they are now mom proofed. It is a sad day when you have to tell your parents what to do and not, or what they need to eat or not, So I have mom proofed everything, As for spooks the Houdini, im working on getting the lil turd a new housing.everything revolves around money.heck even the tooth fairy don't bother coming this way. the word is out lol. But as always it will be done shall be done, needs to be done they are depending on me I also now have a alarm on the snake rooms door that if the contacts between the points are broken. and door always had a lock. if alarm goes off I dont have to offend her by locking rooms that is very insulting to the dimentia Kim you sound like you talk from experience when it comes to the elderly, thanks for the soft words.

| I've been keeping snakes for almost 10 years now and I've never had one escape on me even with my kids going in and out our the reptile room all the time (and they are 4-5 years old) as well as when we live in the other house and the snakes was all in the front room! Yeah I'd get some those reptile tanks with the sliding screen doors and they have a hole for a lock to be put in place as well. I have a couple they are very nice to have.
Now about you mother. I use to work in a nursing home back in the Alzheimer unit. I also help some on the main floor to. Elderly people do some weird things at times. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ (Side Story: We had a patent in the Alzheimer unit it was around Halloween time and he didn't have family that visted him so the room wasn't decorated. So the staff thought it would be nice if they hung up a decoration in his room. Well it was a skeleton. The guy BOY he didn't like that lol He came out of his room and was like Get him out of here!! GET HIM OUT OF HERE!!! I stopped and said Hun get who out of where trying to calm him down. He took me to his room and said him pointing at the decoration. So I took the skeleton down the hallway and put it up on the wall. About 45 mins later the guy found me and said miss I told you to get him out of my room but I didn't mean for you to hang the son-of-a @&@%&!!!) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Maybe your mom thought the little snake was trapped and she thought she was doing it a good thing and letting it loose? Bless her heart for trying to help. At least she didn't scream bloody murder and try to kill it.
