I just went to clean our Fire Belly tank and we have a missing Toad! There is a locking screen top. The kids do not open it unless they ask and they have not asked. I dug threw the moss and rocks in around and under everything. There is no sign of this guy. Do they eat their own??

I had 3 Firebellies a few years ago. I never had any problems with cannibalism. I did do a little Googling and read that there is a small possibility that they could be cannibalistic but there would have to be a huge difference in size between the two. If they were the same size then cannibalism is unlikely. They are very crafty and can fit through even the smallest of holes. Also are you 100% sure that the kids didn't get in there?

Here is a link to a thread that i read. The people thought that the cage was 100% secure and thought that it got eaten but found it a couple months later dead in the closet.

weeeird. this EXACT thing happend to me years ago. i had a fire belly toad in a tank with secure screen top, and one day is was just gone..

ya this is our second that went poof. the first one i figured it got out eaten by the dog vacumed something.

read all the posts in the link you provided wow never thought that they could escape. there are no holes the lid is just the basic screen. Maybe it got out. Which I hope I find it and not Avery. He was having a fit last night when we discovered it gone. It was not pretty

He may have snuck out when you were searching for him. My first king snake could fit in the lip betwen the tank and screen and when I opened it to clean, she snuck out the other side but I caught her before she got to far away..

It's back. I just went to check the tank's water levels and there where 5 toads. Avery is going to be a very Happy little boy when he gets home from School
